Today,
we are frequently visited by disasters.
Some people have the ability to move on just after disasters and some
people don’t. The National Disaster Resilience Month covers four thematic areas
namely: Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Disaster Preparedness, Disaster
Response and Disaster Rehabilitation and Recovery. Resilience literally means,
to become successful again after something bad happens. It means being able to
recover.
We now have the National Disaster
Resilience Month, to help people in preparing and recovering after a
devastating disaster. However, us Filipinos have a very awful habit which we
call the “Mañana Habit”. It is when people set asides works that should be done
immediately. “Mamaya na” which means
later, is where “Mañana Habit” got its name. This habit should be taken out of
our culture so that we can prevent casualties in future disasters. We should
aim for a zero-casualty in every disaster that occurs. Though, we can’t really
say that we can achieve the zero-casualty atleast we can lessen the increasing
casualties in every disasters.
We shouldn’t just be dependent in
preventing casualties. We can also prevent very strong disasters. We should
always be ready for the disasters that will happen. That’s what Filipinos are.
We, Filipinos are resilient as long as we help each other. I remember the poem
that we recited in the stage last year, the “Filipino is Resilient”. The poem
was about us being resilient in every type of disasters.
